Brookes Publishing, a scholarly publishing company in Towson, is looking for a Book Production Editor/Project Manager to join our team. The Book Production Editor/Project Manager will work closely with editorial, design, production, and marketing teams from manuscript to bound book and will be responsible for:
- Managing and coordinating the editing, design, coding, and all associated tracking of product content and components to meet publishing deadlines and budgets for print and electronic publications
- Overseeing the work of various freelancers and vendors; manage and/or complete (as assigned) the editing, proof review, and proof correction process
- Confirming that all project material (manuscript and art) is complete, and meets with Company’s quality standard and specifications
- Understanding Company objectives for products and ensuring content and design are accessible to targeted customers and markets
- Creating and managing production schedules, providing suggestions and resolutions to ensure products meet designated deadlines
- Communicating status of content at all stages to the Director of Production, the Acquisitions Editor and staff, and and other key team members
- Ensuring that all required permissions and releases for products have been secured by publication
This position requires:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of four years’ experience in a production editorial environment or equivalent editing and project management experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for project editing, freelancer management, and project management
- Excellent copyediting, proofreading, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of APA Style
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, work well under pressure, and consistently meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality of content
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in building and maintaining author, customer, and vendor relationships
