POSITION OVERVIEW: Under general direction from the Controller, the Senior Grants Accountant oversees grant billing and budgeting administration and other general accounting responsibilities as assigned, including financial analysis, bank and balance sheet account reconciliations, grant analysis and forecasts, assisting in month-end close.
The Senior Grants Accountant is responsible for overseeing the entries prepared by the Accounts Payable clerk to ensure proper allocations and coding of expenses including cut-off and monitoring all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s grant billing and budgeting process and objectives, including relationships with external auditors and governmental funding agencies. A significant portion of the employee’s time is spent planning, preparing, coordinating and reviewing the functions of the grant area which include preparation of all cost reimbursements as well as ensuring timely submission of per diem grants, analysis of the grant performance and proper usage of funds ensuring that all grants are maximized, understand and timing of all reporting and preparation of budget modifications, working with program managers and outside auditors and compliance with grant requirements. Person must be proactive and will also assist in other financial analysis and reconciliation in the organization.
The individual will be a back-up to the Accounting Manager and perform key property management accounting and analysis as assigned. This position requires an extremely detail orientated person with significant knowledge grant processes and audits including government financial regulations and strong general ledger and financial statement accounting knowledge.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field especially in grants management, CPA Certification a plus
Experience: Requires 3-5 years recent accounting, budgeting and complex cost reimbursement grant billing experience.
Skills: Knowledge of GAAP, Uniform Administrative Requirements and Cost Principles, budgeting, cost allocation, and non-profit accounting. Ability to work under pressure. Strong ability to develop and cultivate relationships and motivate others and to work independently. Ability to multi-task and handle a variety of tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully; prioritize effectively; attentive to detail. Computer Skills: Strong computer and data systems knowledge and understanding; this position requires daily use of a personal computer and requires entering, viewing and revising text and graphics on the computer terminal as well as on paper and working with various governmental systems; Strong knowledge of MS Excel including pivot tables and formulas, MS Word, MS Outlook, ADP, and Yardi.

Working Location: Location is based on a percentage of where work time is spent. Indoors--95% Travel (local) – 5% - job requires minimal travel for meetings
