Fresno Council of Governments (Fresno COG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Fresno County, CA, coordinating transportation and land‐use related projects and programs among its 16 member jurisdictions, State and Federal agencies, project consultants and the public. It is a consensus builder, developing programs and solutions to issues that do not respect political boundaries.
Responsibilities: The Regional Planner is responsible for helping to deploy the region's transportation programs and projects. The Regional Planner performs routine transportation planning duties that may include project programming and delivery. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with technical staff, policy makers, and the general public, offering effective public presentations at committee, board and public meetings. The position also requires critical analysis of various public policy matters surrounding the intersection of transportation and land use planning. The selected candidate will be required to participate in helping develop the long-range Regional Transportation Plan and Sustainable Communities Strategy, Federal Transportation Improvement Program, Air Quality Conformity document, and other related projects and programs. The position requires collaboration and working closely with partner agencies, and as such, the candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills. Candidates must be able to work with considerable independence to perform complex assignments while demonstrating a high‐level of initiative, judgment and foresight. The position requires strong organizational skills and undertaking multiple tasks.
Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited four‐year college or university with a degree in City and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, Environmental Planning, Engineering, Finance, Public Policy, Public Administration, Geography or a related field. A Master’s Degree is desirable. Strong oral and written communications skills are required for preparing and presenting reports, graphics, and technical findings. The candidate must be able to work as a collaborative team member and handle a high volume of work in a busy and demanding environment. Accuracy and timeliness in completing assignments is extremely important.
