Brighton Park Neighborhood Council (BPNC) is an intergenerational community-based organization dedicated to equity and racial justice. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for the working-class and immigrant populations of Chicago’s southwest side through grassroots organizing and providing free and accessible social services and quality programming for youth and adults.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the School Counselor provides comprehensive mental health services to youth aged 6 - 17 and their families at a school l in Brighton Park. Responsibilities include school-based counseling, case management, in-home therapeutic services, and facilitating social-emotional and evidence-based groups. The position requires working Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with occasional nights and weekends. Counselors also provide summer programming annually.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver high-quality individual, group, and family therapy, emphasizing evidence-based approaches for trauma, anger management, and mood regulation.
- Provide an average of 20 direct clinical hours per week.
- Maintain necessary documentation on each client, including intake forms, consent forms, child and adolescent mental health assessments, treatment plans, case notes, etc.
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and collaborate with external providers as needed.
- Conduct referrals for intensive psychological/psychiatric services promptly and professionally.
- Perform additional assigned duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or related field
- At least 1 years of experience working with school age children and adolescents
- Required Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Sensitive to the clinical and case-management needs of low-income/immigrant youth and their families
- Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently
- Ability to creatively and flexibly maintain a therapeutic space for clients within the school setting
