Threshold Coaches is excited to begin work with students from Washington State University in Pullman, WA. This program is independent of the university, yet catered to the unique needs of Washington State students with ADHD.
Please note: there are 2 very different phases of this job:
Developmental Phase- Job Description
- build/maintain connections with various support services on campus.
- assess support structures already in place in the university setting.
- build marketing plan to students and parents to create awareness of the program.
- research meeting locations for small group and 1:1 coaching.
Coaching Phase- Job Description
- Coach students in both small group and 1:1 settings, implementing Threshold's Curriculum, developed to support ADHD students in the college setting. The coach will help college students set actionable goals and then assist in the implementation of every day tasks to meet those goals.
- Coaching will be done in person (on or near campus).
- Help students better understand how to organize, plan, prioritize, advocate with professors, manage time, maintain focus, self-assess, and study to promote both academic and emotional well being in the college setting.
- Communicate with parents in free consultations, initial parent intakes, and once per term to share progress and reassess goals.
Note: We believe that a good Academic Coach is always considering the larger picture of college life, knowing that academics are profoundly impacted by health in the mental, physical, and social realms. In this position, you will be actively checking in on these realms in addition to academics.
Qualifications:
We value candidates who have experience working 1:1 with individuals, particularly those who struggle academically and/or emotionally. Fostering a meaningful, trust-filled connection is the foundation of this work. Candidates must show aptitude in fostering these kinds of connections to be considered for this position.
Required:
- We will only be considering candidates with a Masters degree from within these fields : Higher Education, Special Education, Speech Pathology, Educational Therapy, or Counseling/Social Work. Masters level HS educators may also be considered. If you are a Masters/doctoral candidate, you may be considered for this role as well.
- Applicants must have in-depth knowledge of ADHD and its impact on Executive Functioning Skills for college students
- Experience providing executive functioning support or academic coaching for students age 16-25
- Ability to connect and build positive relationships with college students and their parents
- Familiarity with Google Suite
- Reliable transportation to and from Montana State University campus
- We are looking for a coach who can commit to the building of this program and support our first cohort of students through the 2024-25 school year
Preferred:
- Minimum 2 years experience in academic advising/mentoring/tutoring/counseling at the post-secondary level, or related higher education experience
- Familiarity with available academic support resources on Montana State University campus
Hours:
- Developmental Phase availability: 5-10 hours/week
- Coaching Phase availability: 5-10 hours/week (option for hours to build as the client base grows)
- Note: College students' availability tends to be 11 AM- 9 PM (see benefits of the job below)
