Under the supervision of the Director of Shepherd’s House Redmond, The Shepherd’s House Redmond Overnight Safety Monitor (“Overnight Safety Monitor”) will protect and enhance the safety, secure operation and integrity of Shepherd's House Redmond shelter (“SH Redmond’) and specifically, its overnight guests. The Overnight Safety Monitor will provide all overnight services to SH Redmond guests, maintain overnight watch and patrols around SH Redmond property, engage individuals and situations based on safety concerns, provide guidance regarding appropriate conduct and alert other SH Redmond personnel or law enforcement to safety and related issues. The Overnight Safety Monitor will perform his or her duties and responsibilities to care for the needs of SH Redmond guests, to enhance fulfillment of the SH Redmond mission, to collaborate well with all community partners and neighbors, and to provide a safe and healing environment to all present at SH Redmond.
MISSION
As a ministry of the Shepherd’s House, we provide a safe and healing environment for those who need safe overnight shelter; nurturing and supportive community; and rehabilitative relationships and services. We seek to provide these benefits to protect the physical body and heal the spirit of trauma and indignity from longer term afflictions. We are a community-supported ministry that seeks to engage communities, churches, organizations and volunteers to join us in our mission, within Redmond specifically but also generally throughout Central Oregon. We seek to build alliances with such partners to serve the unsheltered and needy of Redmond and Central Oregon.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Under the supervision of the SH Redmond Director, and the direct supervision of Overnight leads and/or Safety Coordinators, the Overnight Safety Monitor will fulfill the following specific duties and responsibilities:
1. Provide a welcoming, safe environment at SH Redmond where participants are encouraged to access, and benefit from, overnight shelter, dinner and other services provided during the overnight shift.
2. Perform overnight intake and First Stay Registration in a thorough, accurate, and welcoming manner.
3. Support the safety and the secure operations of individuals present at SH Redmond property. This will occur through a combination of standing watch; patrolling SH Redmond property and neighborhood; engaging individuals whose conduct and/or presence may entail safety issues; and alerting other staff and/or law enforcement to events or conditions that create safety concerns.
4. Similarly support the safety and secure operation of SH Redmond facility and property. This will additionally entail competent knowledge of SH Redmond’s physical layout and features.
5. In engaging any individuals for safety-related reasons, initiate contact with a kind and curious posture to identify the nature of the situation, then provide guidance with the required degrees of clarity, firmness and concern for the individual. The expectation is both to address overall safety concerns and act for the individual’s welfare, with value placed on the tools of de-escalation and trauma-informed engagement. The hope is that physical threat, confrontation and/or force can be avoided.
6. Guide participants continually in safe, responsible and orderly conduct at SH Redmond. This entails knowledgeable application of shelter’s Relational Agreements, Good Neighbor Agreements, List of Prohibited Items, Points of Cooperation, Pet Policies, Grounds for Separation and any other guidelines or procedures that relate to safety and secure operation at the shelter.
7. Model the conduct we expect of our participants.
8. Provide ancillary services such as dinner meals, showers, laundry, hygiene supplies, clothing, first aid supplies and any other service items available at SH Redmond to meet guest needs.
9. Maintain all areas of SH Redmond in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition, especially including the dorm area, the bedding storage area and the food service area. This also includes clean and sanitary maintenance of guest storage totes.
10. Participate in all mandated staff training and other training prescribed by SHM as employer for performing this position's duties and responsibilities.
11. Stay informed regarding the identities of individuals separated, legally trespassed, or otherwise precluded from presence on SH Redmond property and participation in its services. This will occur through effective communication among the entire SH Redmond team; regular attendance at designated meetings; consistent review of information accessed through SHM email such as team meeting notes and guest incident reports; and any other means prescribed by SHM as employer.
12. Prepare and distribute Guest Incident Reports and any other documentation necessary to tend to safety and secure operations at SH Redmond.
13. Protect and enhance the relationships of SH Redmond with its community neighbors, as well as the sanitation, orderliness and appearance of SH Redmond’s surrounding neighborhood. This will be done in collaboration with the entire SH Redmond team.
14. Perform all other administrative or supportive employment duties, including but not limited to effective interface with SHM’s payroll system, effective access to and use of SHM’s email and online document software, sanitary maintenance of work areas, and protecting the integrity of SH Redmond filing systems, whether on-line or in hard copy format.
15. Fulfill all other relevant duties, tasks, and responsibilities communicated by the SH Redmond Director, and other appropriate SHM leadership and staff.
Hours: 36-48 hours weekly, some OT will occur
Payrate: $18 – 20/hour
