Manufacturing Engineer for Bunn-O-Matic, Creston, Iowa
Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager. The primary responsibility of this position includes planning the utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve the efficiency of operations. The Manufacturing Engineer position duties encompass developing, installing and maintaining cost effective methods of manufacturing operating standards by performing the following essential job functions:
Essential Job Functions:
- Participate at initiation phase of new product lines to assist in design for both cost effective manufacturing and ergonomic/safe work stations.
- Establish work measurement programs and analyzes work samples to develop standards of labor utilization.
- Recommends methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing work flow, relocating work stations and equipment, and the purchase of equipment.
- Develop and design workplace layouts using motion economy principles, sound ergonomic studies, and proper material handling practices.
- Applies knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
- Organize, layout, and prepare the necessary charts, graphs, or diagrams to illustrate work flow, routing, floor layouts or machine utilization.
- Monitor and document methods changes reducing cost of production and strive for budgeted goals.
- Keep abreast of technology, investigate, and install the most effective methods or manufacturing to keep the company competitive at all times.
- Investigate, plan, and prepare the necessary written proposals for capital equipment justifications, plant layout, material flow, and other projects assigned by the Manager, Technical Services.
- Confers with equipment vendors and solicits feedback and observations from operators.
- Perform troubleshooting of complex circuit boards.
- Increase efficiencies in a cost-effective manner using automation.
- May perform other duties as assigned by their manager.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Electrical Engineering or relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Mathematical/statistical skills and basic computer/software operational skills including SolidWorks, spreadsheets, word processing, databases.
- Expertise in programmable logic controls (PLC) and circuit boards.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities.
- Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to perform and produce results in multifunctional teams in a dynamic work environment along with written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop collaborative relationships and influence up, down, and across the organization.
- Positive attitude and a professional demeanor.
- Must be willing to travel.
