Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics invitesapplicants for a senior level research position. Candidates should have strong scientific and postdoctoralexperience.
Responsibilities will include running a vibrant research program, mentoring of graduate students andpostdocs, creating high quality presentations, communicating with internal and external collaborators,and active participation in the Department's programs and activities. The Associate Research Scientistmay oversee work of more junior research staff and may direct the implementation of laboratoryprocesses/protocols.
The Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics is a vibrant, growing department that seeks to provide the most exciting environment for cutting edge science. The faculty includes a Nobel Laureate. The Department also includes five members of the National Academy of Sciences, four members of the National Academy of Medicine, and four members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. There are several major areas of focus in the Department: membrane proteins and ion channels biology; cardiovascular biology; structural biology; endocrinology, metabolism, pulmonary and bone biology.Through the Ph.D. graduate program and postdoctoral training, the faculty provide a rich environmentfor outstanding candidates. Faculty in the Department are most proud of recent successes in ourongoing efforts to learn about and eventually overcome diseases that afflict millions of patients,including advances in understanding the molecular basis of schizophrenia, genetic characterizations ofosteoblastinduced leukemias, viral infections, and new treatments for heart disease including coronaryartery stent restenosis, heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias.
Qualifications
Minimum Degree Required: PhD
Minimum Qualifications: PhD or MD, plus 2 to 3 years of postdoctoral research experience
