Job Summary PACU Nurse Charge:
The PACU Nurse Charge is a professional nurse leader who is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating all clinical operations within
PACU and is responsible for assuring that nursing care is provided in accordance with Schaumburg Surgery Center, LLC’s policies and procedures, established standards of nursing care and practice, and as defined by the
State of Illinois. Under indirect supervision, he/she manages the day-to-day clinical operations of the PACU, including coordination of patient care, troubleshooting of problem areas and the supervision of a professional team which includes nurses, Nursingl assistants and other staff as appropriate.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to Director of Nursing
- Supervises facility non-physician clinical staff and ancillary personnel directly or indirectly.
INTERNAL /EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Internal relationships - Collaborates with Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and Director of Nursing
- External Relationships - Member of Professional Organizations.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Personnel Management: o Ensures staff compliance with all PACU policies and various regulatory and accrediting agencies including AAAHC, IDPH, etc.
Develops, maintains, and monitors the Environment of CarePolicy, infection control policy and all other clinical policies and procedures to ensure the provision of quality patient care o Trains and educates staff as appropriate in the Center’s procedures; coordinates in-service training, continuing education, orientation, competency reviews, and other related training functions. o Continuously monitors staffing levels and adjusts as appropriate to meet clinical care and financial objectives of the Center. o Assists in the recruitment and retains competent, compassionate staff while monitoring performance standards and promoting fair labor practices. o Objectively evaluates/documents performance of personnel and takes corrective action as appropriate. o Coordinates Center nursing functions such as assessment, patient teaching, and medical record documentation.Coordinates overall patient flow process with Center’s management team.SCHAUMBURG SURGERY CENTER, LLC Admin C.2
Page 2 of 5 o Promotes a positive atmosphere for staff, patients and physicians.
- Leadership: o Serves as the direct report to the Director of Nursing. Assumes direct responsibility for the recruitment, orientation, ongoing training, supervision, discipline and retention of all clinical staff within the PACU areas. o Aids the role of the Infection Preventionist o Maintains a physical presence when Center is open and patients are present. o Maintains an awareness and understanding of current regulatory legislation as it impacts the Surgery Center and institutes changes as warranted. o Applies basic management principles to supervision of the PACU to assure an efficient, cost-effective and safe delivery of care. o Creatively identifies opportunities for process improvement in all aspects of the Center. o Facilitates patient flow, communication, and problem resolution. o Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure. o Annually assesses all clinical staff educational needs and develops a comprehensive education plan. Leads and oversees the implementation of the education plan. Fosters an environment which promotes staff growth and development. o Serves as a resource person and role model for clinical staff.
- Communication: o Effectively communicates with medical, clinical and administrative staff to ensure the efficient operations of the
Center. o Effectively communicates with patients and visitors to resolve inquiries. o Recognizes the need, and responds in a timely manner, to inform Administrator and/or Medical Director of operational issues within areas of responsibility.
- Maintenance of Environment and Security: o Identifies and promptly addresses unsafe practices and other safety issues in the Center. o Ensures staff participation in all fire safety, infection control and other mandatory life/safety training. o Maintains awareness of current and proposed state and federal laws and regulatory agency standards.
- Implements as directed procedures to meet Occupational
Health and Safety Act requirements.
- Establishes procedures for accurate and timely submission of reports to the State and Federal agencies. o Oversees the inventory process for both supplies and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, setting and evaluating par levels, monitoring equipment/supply utilization and costs, identifying quality, lower cost alternatives, etc.

- Actively participates in continuing education activities.
- Ensures all annual/quarterly training of employees and medical staff is performed in accordance with accreditation and Medicare standards.
- Prepares and presents information to co-workers after attending special programs and workshops as appropriate.
- Accepts responsibility for personal professional development and demonstrates desire for personal growth.
- Other: o Identifies appropriate internal controls for Schaumburg Surgery
Center, LLC; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.

Required Education / Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years experience in health care, preferably in an outpatient setting, with supervisory experience. Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Illinois.
Equipment:
Standard patient care equipment, related supplies, and mechanical devices. Standard office equipment.
Working Environment: o Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area. o Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort. o Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required such as walking, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients. o Lifting may be heavy and awkward, and can be over 50 lbs. o Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as: reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication. o Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs. o Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury. o May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, and disoriented or combative patients. o May be required to work extended shifts in situations deemed necessary by the Administrator and/or Medical Director.

Key Roles
1. Strong leadership in HR issues – (a) staff planning and development, (b) honest and direct conversations with employees regarding disruptive behavior, (c) motivating staff through positive interactions (d) ability to cross train the staff to increase flexibility in staffing, (e) be a role model.
2. Equipment planning and owning the process of determining when equipment should be replaced.
3. Works as partner with Director of Nursing to maintain all areas of the
Center in compliance with AAAHC, IDPH and CMS, throughout the year—
takes personal initiative to be updated on the changes.
4. Case Costing—collaborate with Materials Manager and Administrator to ensure knowledge of case costs, and supply/pharmaceutical procurement.
5. Infection Control/Employee Education. Manage the Infection Prevention
Program and conduct all quarterly fire drills, Code Blue, Malignant
Hyperthermia drills and any other as required by regulations.
6. Paylocity- makes edits, approval of PACU time cards for DON to review.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $46.00 per hour
