Byron Public Schools has a vacancy for a full-time 1.0 Behavioral Support Specialist. This position will be housed at the Middle School, working with students, staff, and families, as well as providing consultation services to additional buildings in the district. The ideal candidate will be board certified by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BCBA). Master’s Degree in School Counseling or Master’s Degree in Education preferred. Candidates with experience in behavior management, behavior intervention development, group facilitation, counseling, education, or life skills training are required.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Assist staff in creating and implementing positive classroom management systems
Work closely with students and staff in creating plans for student success in the school setting
Provide support in identifying strategies that proactively assist all students in the school setting
Participate in weekly K-2 multi-tier systems of support (MTSS) team meetings (may be consulted in additional building MTSS meetings as needed across the district)
Present and provide staff with behavioral strategy trainings and interventions
Help students develop collaborative life skills and social skills
Design and monitor specific support plans for students
Provide updates regarding student support plans and progress
Work individually with students in developing life skills for success
Facilitate small groups based on social skills and healthy peer interaction
Identify research-based interventions and use data in making decisions best for student success
Use student data in making necessary changes to intervention support
Collaborate with the school counselor and school-based mental health therapists in supporting student and staff needs
Work with administration, including special education director, in supporting staff, student, and family needs
