MOVE (Mobilize, Organize, Vote, Empower) Texas innovates democracy for our generation. We work daily to build a more just and representative future that empowers inspiring new leaders to keep making Texas better. Our vision is to build the political power of young people to transform democracy in Texas and beyond. While we are known as MOVE Texas, we are comprised of two organizations.
-
MOVE Texas Action Fund (501(c)(4) is the political arm of MOVE Texas, an organization dedicated to building the political power of young people in underrepresented communities through civic engagement, leadership development, and issue advocacy.
-
MOVE Texas Civic Fund (501(c)(3) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, grassroots organization building power in underrepresented youth communities through civic education, leadership development, and issue advocacy.
MOVE Texas operates throughout Texas and primarily in San Antonio, Laredo, Seguin, San Marcos, Austin, Houston, College Station, Fort Worth, Denton, and Dallas. We plan to continue growing and serving other cities and counties beyond these areas.
We are an organization that leads from our values of People First, Equity, Imagination & Action, Sustainability, & Community Focus. We are dedicated to hiring a diverse workforce that fosters personal and professional development opportunities. We provide a collaborative and supportive environment built upon our fundamental core principles, where each employee is valued.
As MOVE Texas Action Fund prepares to take on the 2024 election season, we seek support to supercharge our efforts to build the political power of young people. A key component requires strengthening press relations, spreading brand awareness through media hits, and assisting in messaging development to carry the MOVE Texas vision and values strategically.
For ten years, MOVE Texas has engaged hundreds of thousands of young people in voter registration, leadership development, advocacy campaigns, fellowships, and more. Many of our efforts and campaigns through the impactful last decade have been featured in the likes of Teen Vogue, the New York Times, Politico, the Texas Tribune, the Houston Chronicle, and more. In an ever-changing media world, we need a press relations firm that can help us craft and tell our stories in a compelling, culturally-focused, and youth-centered way, so we can break through the noise of our state and land opportunities that show our state and the country that elections are a moment and young people are the movement.
Historically, MOVE Texas has had successful features in news organizations during big election years and contentious legislative sessions. We need to continue this trend of being the organization to look to for response and action on issues young people care about. Although we have been able to secure some great media hits, we are now looking to significantly expand our efforts in this area to not only nail local and national interviews but also find creative ways to have our young people drive, determine, and tell our movement’s stories from video content, essays, op-eds, and more. We are looking to partner with an organization that will primarily work with our communications team to add capacity to our press efforts, such as crafting press releases, statements, and talking points, and securing stories in the media.
Job Requirements
We are looking for an organization that:
Aligns with our organizational values and believes in the need to center young people in social movements pertaining to democracy reform, climate justice, and gender justice.
Prioritize MOVE’s mission and vision. We are an organization led by young people for young people. We hope to capture the voice that conveys our language and messaging.
Build strategic relationships with reporters. The types of media organizations and reporters we establish relationships with, along with their followings, must reflect our base and membership.
Align press releases, statements, and hits with key moments in our programs and campaigns to take advantage of organizing inflection points.
Experience in media monitoring and tracking.
Understanding and experience with messaging compliance for 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations.
