Job Description
Shelter Advocate
Responsible for providing services to clients in shelter, maintaining a safe shelter environment, knowledge of shelter policies and procedures, and answering telephones including the crisis line. Shelter Advocate will be punctual in reporting to their appointed shifts. Shelter Advocate is responsible for covering holidays that fall within their appointed shift times.

Lead Supervisor: Shelter Services Director
Qualifications:
1. Education and/or experience in human services work.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and non-judgmentally with paid and unpaid staff, clients and their youth, other professionals, and community agencies.
3. Knowledge of, or experience in working with, domestic violence and sexual assault victims.
4. Crisis intervention skills.
5. Basic computer skills.
6. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
7. Flexibility, ability to prioritize, and experience in working on multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
8. Scrupulous adherence to principles of confidentiality.
Essential General Responsibilities:
1. Maintain records and statistics.
2. Provide assistance for all programs.
3. Promote a non-violent environment in the shelter which encourages nurturing and growth-oriented atmosphere.
4. Communicate concerns and/or problems to the Shelter Coordinator.
5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Shelter Coordinator.
Essential Direct Services Responsibilities;
1. Provide help line advocacy and follow-up.
2. Provide individual peer counseling and emotional support to clients and callers.
3. Insure shelter guidelines are implemented and followed.
4. Provide one-on-one peer counseling.
5. Assist clients in achieving their personal goals and responsibilities through an empowerment model.
Essential Training Responsibilities:
1. Must complete the volunteer training.
Additional Responsibilities/Requirements:
1. Attend staff meetings.
2. Valid driver’s license, automobile, and insurance.
3. Access to a private telephone.
4. Available nights, weekends, and holidays.
5. You must report to work. If you are unable to report to work, you must find a replacement. If a replacement cannot be found, you must report to work for your scheduled shift.
Working Conditions:
1. Professional office environment and attire.
2. Face-to-face client interaction during shift.
3. Frequent changes in duties, tasks, and conditions.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.50 - $16.00 per hour
