SUMMARY
We are currently seeking an Insurance and Estimates Specialist to join our Financial Securing team. This full-time role will work remotely (days, with the potential of weekends in the future).
Purpose of this position: The Insurance and Estimates Specialist is responsible for ensuring that payers are prepared to reimburse Hennepin Healthcare for services in accordance with the payer-provider contract. This person contacts payers to notify of services and request service authorization and may collect financial and/or demographic information from patients and staff as needed. In addition, the Insurance and Estimates Specialist is responsible for creating and providing accurate and timely price estimates in accordance to federal and state law.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Verifies patient’s insurance and benefits information
- Notifies payers of services needed for patients
- Completes notification of admission and obtains initial authorizations from third-party payers in accordance with payer requirements
- Contacts patients to gather demographics and insurance information as needed, and updates patient information within the EMR as necessary
- Works with other departments to ensure timely submission of clinical information required by the payer to authorize services
- Maintains accurate records of authorizations within the EMR
- Refers accounts to financial counseling as needed if authorization is not obtained
- Completes accounts in assigned work queues and completes authorization work flows timely
- Plays an essential role in assisting with an accurate determination of a patient’s insurance eligibility
- Compiles and provides accurate price estimates to multi-disciplinary healthcare teams and potential patients
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment
- Performs other duties as requested
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2-years of related and relevant work experience

- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Epic certification: Hospital registration – revenue cycle
- Formal process improvement/Lean certification
- Certification in EPIC Cadence, ADT/Prelude or Resolute preferred
- Fluency in other languages
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
- Excellent communication and customer services skills
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to priority and multitask
- Proficiency in the use of healthcare information systems, preferred
- Ability to comply with HIPAA regulations as well as the organization’s policies and procedures regarding patient privacy and confidentiality
