The school social worker/school adjustment counselor is responsible for providing clinical and psychoeducational services to a caseload of students to support their social emotional and behavioral health. The school counselor is a key member of the Wellness Team and works directly with families and faculty to develop intervention plans tailored to meet individual students needs and ensure their well-being. Candidates should possess strong clinical skills, particularly pertaining to adolescent mental health, and able to work as part of team to assist in the design and implementation of tiered support services.RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide counseling for a caseload of students, utilizing a comprehensive mental health model that includes assessment, individualized intervention and progress monitoring Serve as case manager for students needing Tier 3 supports Coordinate comprehensive student support and intervention with student support staff/Administrators as well outside providers Communicate regularly with families, about student needs, challenges, referrals, and progress Collaborate with faculty to identify supports and strategies for working with students experiencing mental health and academic difficulties Conduct crisis evaluations as needed for students, referring them to appropriate mental health and community-based services Support student re-entry to school following hospitalization Provide psychoeducation and skill building to students about wellness and mental health such as substance use, suicidality, etc. Participate as member of IEP teams, including writing counseling goals, service delivery, and progress monitoring Coordinate with, and maintain resources for, referral to community-based services and outside providers Serve as a member of the Wellness, SEL/MH and Crisis Response teams Coordinate, create and/or facilitate Tier 2 group services to meet demonstrated areas of student need Participate in programmatic initiatives to support student well-being, i.e., Signs of Suicide prevention program, MetrwoWest, SBIRT, etc.
Maintain the principles of the profession in regards to confidentiality Stay current with issues pertaining to adolescent development and mental health and provide consultation to faculty as well as trainings for faculty, as appropriate Other duties as identified by supervisor PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
