We are inviting applications for a Controller role based in Los Angeles, California. In this role, you will be overseeing and managing all financial operations of the Firm, processing all bank transactions, and preparing and presenting various financial reports. This role offers an exciting opportunity in the legal industry.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all accounting and financial operations of the Firm
- Process all bank transactions for the Firm including wires, ACH, and internal bank transfers
- Calculate owner compensation estimates and collaborate with the Management Committee to review and adjust estimates
- Prepare compensation analyses related to lawyer on-boarding
- Prepare and present weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Provide analysis and insight of data for individual timekeepers and the Firm overall
- Prepare and maintain the annual budget
- Act as the primary liaison with outside accountants for all financial matters including preparation of tax returns, PTET, and related issues
- Oversee the Finance and Accounting team
- Manage and monitor client trust/IOLTA accounts
- Work with the bank and owners for renewal of line of credit
- Reconcile real estate closings and apply payments from the trust account
- Monitor bank accounts and balances; review monthly bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controller at a law firm or in a similar role
- Proficiency in Accounting Functions is required
- Experience with month end close is mandatory
- • Prior exposure to Budget Processes is required
- Familiarity with Trust accounting is necessary
- Expertise in Financial Reporting is needed
- Experience in Month End Close activities is essential
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Should possess excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines is required
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software and MS Office Suite is necessary
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required
- Certification such as CPA or CMA is highly desirable
