Summary
Oliver Companies is seeking a skilled Mold Shop Supervisor that can assist Engineering with mold designs and builds. The ideal candidate can direct a team on mold repairs used to produce plastic or fiberglass components. This candidate has the ability and experience needed to build precision mold components using conventional and numerically controlled metal-cutting machines and equipment, including saws, drills, grinders, lathes, mills, and electrical discharge machines. This position reports directly to the Mold Shop Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops and manages all tooling activities.
- Leads preventive maintenance of molds and mold reliability.
- Manages improvement of key performance indicators for continuous improvement of mold functions, and for department budget cost effectiveness.
- Participates in and/or leads initiatives for capital projects.
- Ensures projects/problem-solving activities are controlled to meet deadlines.
- Assures purchasing functions following established policies and procedures.
- Supports, maintains, and improves processes associated with mold maintenance.
- Identifies safety, environmental, quality & production issues.
- Leads the team by proactively resolving team issues, builds teamwork, and ensures adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
- Staffs, recruits, retains, and develops talent in the mold repair process.
- Manages teammate performance and assists in training when needed.
- Determines root cause and implements preventative action in response to Non-Conformances.
- Partners with Engineering to develop and engage systems to qualify new mold designs before transitioning from mold maker to production.
- Provides quotations for tooling improvements, maintenance, modifications, materials and repairs.
- Works with vendor and procurement team to develop alternate competitive supply of critical tooling components and molds.
- Understanding of each mold type and production usage of each. Repair and maintain production molds as required.
- Maintains location storage for each mold.
· Create fiberglass tooling (molds) to meet customer product specifications
· Creation of finished product prototypes or plugs from various materials including, but not limited to MDF, foam, wood, tile, or other materials. Preparation of prototype/plug to meet surface quality and dimensional requirements. Proper application of gel coat, fiberglass reinforcement (chopper gun and/or hand lay-up), and structural materials.
· Understand how to Trim, sand, polish completed molds with a high attention of detail.
· Create fiberglass reinforced parts per customer specifications including:
· Perform polishing, cleaning, and application of release products to molds in preparation for creation of parts.
· Release cured products from molds using various hand tools and machinery.
· Measure dimensions of products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
· Calibrate and use measurement equipment. (jig tools, tape measures, etc.).
· Ability to use digital mold scanning equipment
· Great verbal and written communication.
· Uphold the highest standards of honesty and integrity.
Qualifications:
· Must have managed a team of 4 or more teammates in prior positions
· Excellent Troubleshooting. Organization and multi-tasking skills
· Knowledge of core materials and chemicals such as, but not limited to resins, filler putties, compounds, etc.
· Must have 3 or more years of manufacturing and mold shop experience

Pay: Up to $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
