EARLY HEAD START CENTER-BASED ASSISTANT TEACHER
(Early Childhood Program Specialist 2)
SALARY: $3,393/month ($40,716 annually) to start
LOCATION: Multiple Locations in Snohomish County
DESCRIPTION:
The Early Head Start Assistant Teacher assists in planning, organizing and implementation of classroom activities that are aligned with specified early childhood practices to address the needs of children birth to age three, in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards and program policy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Acts as the Primary Caregiver to provide daily routine care for children birth to age three including, diapering, feeding, and safe sleep practices
-
Assists the lead teacher in creating a nurturing learning environment that supports the social-emotional, cognitive, and physical and language development of children ages birth to age three
-
Adherence to all Active Safety & Supervision procedures and policies, ensuring that no child is ever left alone or unsupervised
-
Prepares classroom for meals, story time, snack time and performs other activities to assist the teacher in the implementation of daily schedule
-
Ensures classroom is set up and materials are prepared for children¿s arrival on a daily basis
-
Participates in weekly lesson plan development with teaching team
-
Assist Teacher in completing written observations and anecdotal notes, and entering into agency databases
-
Obtain and maintain Inter Rater Reliability using Teaching Strategies Gold within one year of employment
-
Participates in relevant IFSP, multidisciplinary team meetings and transition process to share pertinent information about the child and family with other staff
-
Actively engages with children, staff members and communicates with parents
-
Attends workshops and training programs to improve skills, increase awareness and enhance knowledge of center operations
-
May be required to travel to other centers to provide coverage based on agency needs (will pay eligible mileage according to state mileage reimbursement policy)

Report all cases of suspected child abuse/neglect per our reporting policy and state law
-
Must be able to walk or run quickly, kneel or sit on the floor, lift approximately 50 pounds, sit in a child's size chair, and move quickly from multiple positions and levels

Ability to perform regular sanitation/cleaning of the classroom that may require the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum, and the use of cleaning products

This is a classified position reporting to the Education Site Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational requirement (One of the following is required):
-
Washington State Initial Early Childhood Education Certificate, or
-
Twelve credits in early childhood education, leading to an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or
-
A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or
-
Enrollment in a CDA credential program, to be completed within two years of hire
-
One year of work experience in an infant/toddler classroom (ages birth ¿ 3 yrs old)

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an early learning environment, and onsite/in-person. The ability to sit, bend, stoop, walk and generally move around the classroom and over uneven surfaces is required. Position will be responsible for sanitizing classroom furniture and materials, changing diapers, and care and feeding of infants. This position involves some repetitive movement like keyboarding. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language. WORK SCHEDULE:
40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
COMPENSATION:
Salary range 36. Beginning salary is $3,393/month. Progressive increases to $4,093 per month, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 3 personal leave days, and 13.99 vacation days per year (incremental increases to 24 vacation days per year).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
