Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is looking for a Senior Project Manager
This position will report directly to the Projects Director, located in Pittsburgh, PA.
Summary
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Power Americas (MPWA) and a Group Company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), MHI Hydrogen Infrastructure is boldly accelerating the energy transition and moving the world towards a brighter, sustainable, and decarbonized world. We are already building large-scale hydrogen-fueled power plants and are rapidly expanding our portfolio to provide hydrogen production plants, as well as hydrogen storage and infrastructure solutions. In short, we are building a value chain for hydrogen, from production to use, through the integration of existing energy infrastructure with advanced hydrogen related technology.
We are leading the industry in shaping the hydrogen ecosystem, from our hydrogen-capable gas turbines to our investments in the world’s first and largest integrated green hydrogen production and storage hub.
We are rapidly expanding our Hydrogen Infrastructure engineering and project management team to support new hydrogen infrastructure development activities and projects throughout the Americas. We seek a colleague to join the Hydrogen Infrastructure Development team as a Senior Project Manager. This person should be qualified in all key facets of project management and execution for large-scale capital energy projects, including budget, cost, scope, schedule, risk, resource planning, project tracking and reporting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing, coordinating, and administering early FEED stage projects from Stage Gate 2 through the conceptual stages through planning, engineering, procurment, construction, start-up, performance testing, initial operations, and prime contract close-out.
- Provide leadership for the development and maintenance of a high-performance project team. Has overall responsibility for project execution, ensuring that the project is delivered within contract requirements, standards of quality and safety and to Customer and MHIH2I performance expectations
- Develop project schedules, work-breakdown structures (WBS), risk management plans, project budgeting and forecasting, CAPEX planning, project safety management (PSM)
- Develop schedule baselines, team-building activities, communications management plans, project cost monitoring metrics, Document Control plans, invoicing schedules, percent of project completed forecasts, progress and project milestone plans and reports, monitor revenue and expenditure activity, cash flow, other financial metrics
- Fosters establishing and maintaining relationships with contractors, EPC’s, design firms, and equipment suppliers
- May participate in negotiating MOUs, project contracts, construction agreements, project scope and change orders
- Develops processes and tools to increase and improve project execution efficiency, safety, quality, cost, and schedule
- Ensure project-specific financial assessments capture all corresponding development costs, engineering costs, equipment costs, and construction costs
- Create and maintain project updates and progress reports; identify risks and possible solutions for discussion with team members.
- Manage consultants and vendors responsible for critical development tasks to ensure on time delivery and accuracy of required work products.
- Travel less than 15%
- Perform other such duties as may be required.

Candidates must have experience working with / for capital equipment suppliers, EPC firms (Engineer, Procure, Construct) in the fields of Power Generation, Oil and Gas, Industrial Gas, Chemical, or related industrial process industries.
Candidates with familiarity in process technologies for hydrogen production and the production of hydrogen derivatives such as ammonia will be highly encouraged.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering, business, or a relevant field from a four-year accredited college or university. A graduate degree is a plus, but not required. Preferred 10-15 years of directly related project management experience and/or training.
- Less experience may be accepted based on relevant work, such as construction management, project engineering, project execution, and technical or capital equipment sales.
- Capital project commercial contract management experience is essential
- Understanding of construction practices and construction site management, construction trades, labor estimates, equipment estimates, and engineering estimates is essential
- Understanding of basic engineering principles, all related disciplines, and basic awareness of US and international codes and standards
- PMP certification, and or PMI courses a plus
- Flexibility and willingness to learn and “pitch in” at all levels; thorough understanding of the project development lifecycle, including key stage gates and funding impact; experience in negotiating key project contracts – partnership agreements, land acquisition, off-take and feedstock agreements; knowledge of export market for hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives; interest and ability to work in a small team environment; ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; interdisciplinary understanding of business development and energy issues (technology, power markets, economics, and policy); ability to quickly understand the basics of a variety of subjects relating to solar and wind energy and storage; including resource studies, environmental studies, transmission issues, public relations, public policy, sales, and engineering.
- Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Gantt Chart tools, strong knowledge of project management scheduling and estimating tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, Aspen, other
- Financial modeling experience a plus, but not essential for this role
