Full Job Description

Replications, Inc., a nonprofit school support organization based in New York City, seeks a competent, resourceful, and well-organized Youth Development and Wellness Lead to fill a full-time position at P.S. 188.

P.S. 188 is a NYC Department of Education elementary school located in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY.

The Youth Development and Wellness Lead (YDWL) is an essential Replications’ school-based team member delivering services under the Community School model. The YDWL will work with other members of the team, school administration, and staff to build and/or maintain the culture of the school and provide academic and enrichment SEL support to P.S. 188 students. The position is full-time.

The YDWL will report directly to the Community Schools Director and receive additional support and direction from Replications senior management team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions or duties listed below are not intended to be exhaustive but rather as examples of the various types of work that may be performed.

Lead in the development of a culture that celebrates achievement and attendance.
Creating a strong culture outside of the classroom through school-wide events that build community, upholds our core values, and demonstrate our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Support teachers, administration, and staff by creating and building a cohesiveness throughout the school community
Develop and/or facilitate student led programming (Student Government, Student Advisory Council and/or Honor Society)
Responding effectively to students whose needs extend beyond the classroom, including responding to serious incidents and/or mental health crises and in collaboration with social workers
Designing, attending, and participating in events outside of normal school hours, and performing such other duties as the school may reasonably assign from time to time
Develop and/or manage internship and service-learning opportunities for students
Support efforts to recruit students
Create and present formal reports on school culture and safety, as requested.
Serve on school-level committees as needed
Perform other duties as assigned

Develop and implement appropriate plans for action to enhance effectiveness
Demonstrate willingness to take on new approaches and responsibilities
Accept suggestions for improving quality of work
Actively engage with community members from all walks of life and accommodate diverse schedules
Acting as an active member of the school's leadership team, holding in person meetings or phone calls outside of school hours, including some nights and weekends, as is reasonably requested by the principal
Communicate clearly through writing, speaking, and dedicated web-based platforms
Complete projects in a comprehensive and timely manner
Facilitating faculty and/or supporting staff professional development related to school culture and social-emotional support for students
Remain up to date on trends, developments, and best practices in the field of education and social work
Ensure required reports are submitted in accordance with established deadlines

Skills & Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of two years experience working with youth or teaching, specifically elementary-aged children.
Verbal and written fluency in English.
Verbal and written fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
Strong organizational, communication and computer skills
Experience working in a public school or charter school setting
Demonstrated knowledge of conflict de-escalation skills
Knowledge and experience working with English Language Learners, students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and at-risk students
Experience in implementing school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) and/or Restorative Justice practices and incentive programs.
Strong cultural competence and an understanding of the nuances of urban school environments
Strong organizational skills (attention to detail, record-keeping, programming monitoring, data tracking, presentation, and facilitation skills, etc.)
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, students, and community partners
Excellent interpersonal skills
