Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Dean of Transfer and Allied Health Education.
The Dean of Transfer & Allied Health Education provides strategic planning, leadership, and management for transfer and allied health education programming. The Dean is a key member of the instructional leadership team. The Dean represents the college externally, working with state, local, and federal agencies, as well as community and K-12 partners.
The Dean of Transfer & Allied Health Education reports to the Vice President of Learning & Student Success. The Dean works closely with members of the Instructional Council, President’s Cabinet, faculty, and staff to ensure the successful completion of the college’s goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Provide leadership and supervision for transfer and allied health-related programs, courses, faculty and staff.
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources, faculty, and staff to support the equitable hiring of full-time faculty, associate faculty, and staff.
- Understand and administer the BBCC Faculty Negotiated Agreement.
- Lead faculty in developing quarterly and annual class schedules based on student need and historic enrollment trends. Hire associate faculty and issue overload contracts to full-time faculty according to class schedule needs.
- Provide leadership for balancing course offerings by different modalities based on student need.
- Advocate for and support faculty and staff in initiatives that are culturally relevant.
- Promote and support inclusive pedagogies and support faculty professional development to deliver curricula grounded in culturally relevant knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Manage student enrollment by monitoring quarterly class enrollments and adding or canceling classes based on enrollment and student need.
- Manage faculty teaching loads based on class schedules, student enollment, and the BBCC Faculty Negotiated Agreement. .
- Serve on probationary tenure committees and support their work including performing observations, arranging for evaluation surveys and visits, and ensuring report are compiled and submitted.
- Provide guidance, support, and onboarding of new full and associate faculty.
- Support faculty in developing their teaching skills and engaging in ongoing professional development activities.
- Evaluate staff, associate and full-time faculty in accordance with college policy and the BBCC Faculty Negotiated Agreement.
- Provide leadership and direction on program assessment and improvement processes.
- Provide leadership and strategic planning for student success, retention, and degree completion in academic transfer and allied health programs.
- Oversee the development and modification of all curriculum and program activities for academic transfer and allied health programs.
- Lead the development of new courses and programs and the revision of existing ones in response to the changing needs of students, external partners, and the college. Ensure curricular pathways into workforce and transfer programs exist for students.
- Develop, monitor, and manage multiple budgets, including state allocation, grant, self-support and fee accounts.
- Provide oversight and direction for the STEM Center, including operation, tutoring services, supplemental instruction, and other academic support services for students.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Campus Safety & Compliance, the Science Lab Coordinator, and Science Faculty to ensure safety in the science labs and compliance with state and federal safety regulations.
- In collaboration with other college departments, develop and implement outreach, marketing, and public relations strategies for academic transfer and allied health programs and services.
- Provide leadership for expanding and maintaining K-12 dual enrollment opportunities and partnerships with area school districts.
- Oversee and manage the College in the High School (CiHS) dual enrollment program including serving as a liaison with area high schools, establishing new agreements, coordinating faculty, and preparing annual reports.
- Represent the college at state and regional meetings pertaining to academic transfer education and K-12 relations.
- Take an active role in accreditation activities, grant preparations, and management of grant activities.
- Provide leadership for various college iniatives through service on different committees and workgroups. Regularly attend required committee meetings.
- Serve as a liaison to the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) Articulation & Transfer Council (ATC), the Intercollege Relations Commission (ICRC) and other commissions and councils as requested.
- Promote and encourage intercultural awareness and sensitivity especially as it relates to students enrolled in academic transfer and allied health programs and services.

OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Follow safe work practices and policies, including, but not limited to security and safety, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), fire, disaster, and safe lifting.
- Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures as well as state and federal requirements.
- Collaborate with all areas of the college as needed to implement plans and objectives specific to the position. Ensure the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the college’s values.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in a transfer field (mathematics, natural sciences, English, humanities, fine arts, social sciences), education or other related field from a nationally accredited institution.
- Three (3) years of experience as full-time faculty, teaching in one of the disciplines supervised by this position..
- Two (2) years of administrative experience such as Associate or Assistant Dean, Division Chair, Department Head, or other similar position.
- Experience with hiring processes and mentoring faculty and staff.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching at a community college, preferred.
- Experience working with state and federal grants and contracts.
- Experience with institutional effectiveness and outcomes assessment.
- Experience with integration of technology in instruction and/or distance learning.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in the development and implementation of new programs.
- Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.
